The enormous popularity of this book rests on the fact that it de-mystifies acting. It encourages actors to focus attention on process. And skill, and technique, rather than on vague generalisations. It tells actors, for example, that it is alright to be tongue-tied, mechanical, even graceless, to begin with. It uses plenty of examples and illustrations while discussing theory. But more than anything, young actors seem to like the fact that the author is practicing what he is preaching.
